Biography

Josh Boehm is an attorney in the Technology Transactions & Privacy practice of Perkins Coie

LLP, and an active member of Perkins Coie’s Blockchain Technology and Virtual Currency

industry group. In recent years, he advised the first Bitcoin exchange to obtain a trust charter in

New York, composes virtual currency regulatory strategies for clients, and counsels companies

on cutting-edge business initiatives involving blockchain technology. He has also advised

clients in other challenging contexts, including sanctions and fraud criminal defense, securities

and derivatives creditor rights, systemic risk oversight of banks, and cross-border financial

technology transactions. Josh has written widely on financial law-related issues, having

published articles in the Cornell Law Review, the Harvard Business Law Review, the Harvard

International Law Journal, and the Columbia Journal of Tax Law. Before joining Perkins Coie,

Josh was an associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, and served as a law clerk to Judge

Sandra S. Ikuta of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He also worked for

Promontory Financial Group, where he advised banks and broker-dealers on critical risk

management issues during the 2008 global financial crisis. He holds a J.D., magna cum laude,

from Harvard Law School, and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Yale University.
